What The Service Involves
A camera that shows an entire yard may still miss the detail you need at its entrance. Our CCTV installation approach starts with the event you want to understand, then works back to the camera position, lens, lighting and recording settings. That makes the conversation about useful evidence rather than simply the number of cameras on a quote.
For a small premises, the priority might be seeing visitors at the door and deliveries arriving outside. A larger site can need separate views for vehicle movements, stock handling and pedestrian routes. We consider where people stop, which direction they face and whether a raised shutter or parked van could block the view.
A System That Fits The Building
IP cameras send video across a data network to a recorder or managed recording service. Power over Ethernet can carry power and data through the same cable, but cable routes, switch capacity and the recorder’s supported camera formats still need checking. Existing analogue systems may offer a practical upgrade route when their cabling is in good condition.
Night-time performance needs its own assessment. Infrared lighting can reflect from close walls or number plates, while bright doorway lights can leave a visitor’s face in shadow. A sensible specification considers the actual scene after dark, not just a camera’s advertised resolution or the brightness of its daytime demonstration image.
Camera coverage with a purpose.
When To Review Your Security
Consider a new installation when an entrance is unobserved, a property layout has changed or existing footage cannot explain an incident. If cameras already exist, bring a sample exported clip to the discussion. It can show whether the problem is image detail, recording gaps, incorrect time settings or the difficulty of finding an event.
Standards And Responsibilities
BS EN IEC 62676-4:2025 provides application guidance for video surveillance systems. We use an agreed operational requirement to guide the proposed coverage, installation and handover checks. Where identifiable people are recorded, UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 also matter, including lawful use, clear information and controlled access to recordings.

How The Work Is Planned
- Discuss the property, the incidents you want to understand and who needs to view recordings. Mark priority views before choosing equipment.
- Survey mounting points, lighting, cable routes, power and the network. Agree privacy masking and any areas that should stay outside the image.
- Fit and configure the cameras and recording equipment, then test the agreed scenes. Check night settings, playback, time synchronisation and a usable export.
- Walk through everyday use with the nominated administrator. Record account ownership, the recording policy and a plan for future maintenance.
What Affects The Cost
Camera quantity is only one part of a CCTV installation cost. Access equipment, cable lengths, building fabric, lighting improvements, storage capacity and remote viewing requirements all affect the scope. A clear quotation should separate equipment and installation from optional support or cloud charges, so an affordable initial system does not hide an ongoing commitment.
Decide What Each View Must Show
At an entrance, consider whether you need to recognise a familiar visitor or identify an unfamiliar person from a recording. At a service yard entrance, decide whether the aim is to understand vehicle movement or capture a registration at a defined point. These tasks can need different camera positions and lighting, so asking one camera to cover everything can be a false economy. Marking those needs on a simple plan gives you a useful basis for comparing proposals.
Handover And Ongoing Care
Ask to see an actual recording being found and exported before accepting the installation. Keep administrator recovery details securely and give ordinary viewers their own limited accounts. If remote access is needed, agree how it is protected and who will maintain firmware, rather than leaving a recorder exposed through an unnecessary open internet port.
Your Questions Answered
Can I View My CCTV On My Phone?
Remote CCTV viewing is possible with compatible equipment and a suitable internet connection. Access should use individual accounts, strong passwords and additional verification where the platform supports it. The survey should check upload capacity and explain any subscription, security settings and ownership arrangements before you decide whether mobile viewing is useful for your premises.
Does Business CCTV Need Privacy Signs?
Business CCTV needs appropriate signage and privacy information for people whose images are recorded. Facilities managers and landlords should assess camera positions, limit unnecessary views of neighbouring premises and public spaces, and explain the purpose of recording. Agree who handles footage requests, how recordings are secured and how long they are retained before the system goes into use.
